Man, 31, Bags 4 Months Imprisonment For Attempting To Steal Cartons Of Beer


A Kuje Area Court in the FCT has sentenced Yahaya Ahmed of Anguwan Ekwa, Zuba, Abuja, to four and half months imprisonment for attempting to steal cartons of beer.


 Ahmed, 31, was convicted for joint act, criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence punishable under sections 97, 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.


 The judge, Mr Nuhu Ibrahim, however, gave him an option to pay N9,000 fine.




 He said the court convicted Ahmed having found him guilty of the offences he admitted to have committed.


 “You are hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment each under sections 97, 95 and two and half months under section 348, totaling four and a half months imprisonment.


 “You have an option to pay the sum of N9, 000 as fine,” Ibrahim said.


 Police prosecutor Samuel Ochefu told the court that Emanuel Augustine of Anguwan Tiv in Kuje reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on February 13.


 The prosecutor said Ahmed and two others, now at large, jointly entered the complainant’s deport in Kuje and attempted to steal cartons of beer.


 Ochefu said it was discovered during investigation that Ahmed was caught when they were loading the cartons of beer into a truck.


 Ahmed pleaded guilty to the charges and the prosecutor applied for summary trial
