The tricks women use to look thinner (and often all at once)
When it comes to looking thinner, it seems that some women will do anything to shift a few pounds – except go on a diet.
Two-thirds of women feel they could do with losing weight but don’t have the time or the inclination to diet, a study found.
Instead they will try tricks such as wearing black, applying fake tan and carrying an oversized handbag in an effort to look slimmer
But the most popular cheat was wearing control underwear.
Other tricks include donning stilettos to add height and wearing big sunglasses to make their face look smaller, the survey of 2,000 women found
Long tops to cover rolls of fat, big belts and high-waisted trousers are also worn by many to make themselves appear slimmer. Nearly 90 per cent of the females who took part in the study said they use such tricks.
Four in ten ladies said they own shape-wear underwear that holds you in and flatters your shape.
While a similar number said they would rather use clever make-up and fashion techniques than invest their precious time in the latest fad diet.
The study carried out by online retailer Marisota also revealed 11 per cent of women use excess make-up to draw attention away from their body.
'And it's only natural that we want to accentuate our good bits and try to disguise the parts of our body we are not entirely happy with.
'Most women know what suits them and can dress accordingly to their shape and size, but a few of the tricks in this poll are bound to help.
'Wearing heels, putting your hair up and wearing underwear that emphasises your figure are all known ways to elongate your figure and look slimmer.'
Shockingly the results showed that more than a third of women said they like socialising with friends that are bigger than them so they feel better about themselves.
And the poll also found one in five women said certain techniques in the way they dressed enabled them not to have to worry about dieting.
Two thirds felt they could do with losing a few pounds but don't have the time or the inclination to diet.
Therefore 84 per cent felt that dressing in a way that flattered their shape and using a few diet cheats like wearing black and adding a big belt could instantly take the pounds off.
And 38 per cent said they would rather use clever make-up and fashion techniques than invest their precious time in the latest fad diet.
Of the women polled, 39 per cent said they like to wear form fitting clothes that highlight their curves, but a more reserved 31 per cent said they tended to opt for baggy clothes to hide their shape.
Twenty seven per cent said they have bought dresses that are too small just so they could say they fitted in a certain size.
My Fiancé, His Mom, Sisters & Brothers All Deceived Me For 4 Years
What a story. Ladies indeed go through a lot in relationships. The lady didn’t tell me her age, I only hope she’s in her early 20’s. Just wow.
I am in tears as I write this, it’s not that I want anyone’s pity, I’m just putting out the story to let others learn from my story. I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years after he was deported from the UK. When he got here he lived with his sister but they had an argument and she chucked him out. So being the good person I am I got an accommodation for him. We have been in a serious relationship and planned to get married this year. Now for the bombshell……I had NO IDEA he left a wife and two kids in the UK, and I have now discovered that they have been in constant contact. What is most disappointing is that t I know his family well, when I say well, I mean well. If they have a function we all wear the same aso ebi.
On Monday one of his nieces who is really close to me let slip that my boyfriend is planning to travel to London on Thursday, VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!. Can you just imagine that I had no idea. I thought she was joking or seriously mistaken, and I think it’s this reaction that prompted her to tell me about this secret family and about this secret visa that he has somehow managed to obtain.
His niece begged me to never tell anyone, furthermore she said that I’m such a nice person hence the reason why she told me. When I confronted my boyfriend he denied it then got very upset. I went to go and meet the sister who threw him out, she’s the first born, and a lot older (meaning she should be wiser) I begged her to tell me the truth, and she confirmed what the niece told me, however she said not to worry and didn’t say anything about him travelling.
I went home and told him that his family had confirmed everything. He then opened up and said he has to leave on Thursday. I was shell shocked. When I asked what will happen to me he said me and him will still communicate, as if that would be some sort of compensation.
I got home and told my family and my mum was so mad on Tuesday we went to my fiance’s house, my fiance’s mum told my mum that we will still get married that I should be patient for like 2/3 years so he can get stable, and that I should be the wife here while the wife in the UK will not interfere with our marriage here. My mum rebuked such an arrangement and told her where to go. I then texted my fiancé saying is this really how we are going to end and he replied with I am sorry. Nothing more was said. I am not feeling mentally stable but writing this is a source of relief knowing that someone might read this and be more observant, thus letting her see the kind of man she is really with. Ladies, and even gentlemen too I’m not saying you should start acting like Sherlock Holmes but just don’t turn a blind eye if you suspect ANYTHING.

"TB Joshua rescued me from alcohol, drugs and mental issues' - actor Hanks Anuku

"Yes I got my healing through TB Joshua. It is our Lord's doing. I never believev in miracles until this happened to me. I was having issues with mentality for over seven years, you will notice I have not been that frequent in movies for long. Even when I was special assistant to our dear governor, I was not in a good state of mind and this affected my work in the government before I was advised to seek for solution in Ghana. I spent so much money visiting hospitals, orthodox and unorthodox doctors without positive result. Until I was introduced to TB Joshua. I was only watching his TV programme in Ghana and was healed. I put my faith into it just like the woman with the issue of blood and knew that I would be healed and I got my healing. I am now a mentally stable man. I have dropped drinking and smoking habit, glory be to God."
Man pours pot of boiling stew and lighted stove on girlfriend (PICTURED)
A 27-year-old woman, Mary Sunday, has been in the hospital bed at Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital seven months after she was allegedly attacked by her fiancé, Corporal Isaac Gbanwuan, with a pot of boiling stew and a lighted stove. It was learnt that Sunday had lost her ears due to the attack.
Before the attack, which took place in August 2012, Sunday, was to report for training at the Police Academy, Kano as a cadet officer.
Still nursing severe burns to her neck, chest and upper arms, Sunday can barely sit or walk straight. She holds her head stiffly and talks with difficulty as she recalled the events that led to her present state to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday.
She said, “I have known Gbanwuan for a while, while I was still a student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but it wasn’t until our marriage introduction in 2011 that I moved in with him at the Pedro Police Barracks, Lagos.
“On the day I was assaulted, Gbanwuan and I went to see our doctor. We had some health issues. While we were on our way back home, I made a phone call. Immediately we got home, Gbanwuan started querying me. He accused me of keeping lovers and claimed the person I called was my lover.
“I tried to explain to him that it was my sister I called, but Gbanwuam was not listening. He began to beat me,” Sunday said.
Unable to take it any more, Sunday said she ran into the kitchen of a neighbour with Gbanwuan giving pursuit. He allegedly broke into the kitchen where he continued to assault Sunday.
She said, “Then to the horror of those who tried to intervene, Gbanwuan seized his neighbour’s cooking stove on which was a pot of boiling stew, emptying the entire contents on me.
“I don’t know for how long I was unconscious but I was later told that I was in a coma for seven days. I learnt the stove also exploded after Gbanwuan threw it with the boiling soup at me.
“I was first rushed to a private hospital at Bariga before I was eventually transferred to Igbobi hospital.
“I couldn’t tell my family for a while because I could not use my hands; they were sort of stuck to my chest. It was after much treatment, that I was able to use my hands and call my family.”
Sunday’s lawyer, Mr. Moses Kassim, told PUNCH Metro that a petition had already been sent to the Police Provost Office and the Commissioner of Police.
He said, “We have still not received any response from either of them. Gbanwuan is yet to be arrested despite the fact that Sunday’s family reported the case at the Pedro Police Division.
“While Sunday is confined to a hospital bed, Gbanwuan is still at his duty post at the Ebutte Ero division, showing no concern for her condition.”
Copies of the acknowledged petition received by the Provost Office and Commissioner of Police were dated January 17, 2013.
When PUNCH Metro contacted Gbanwaun, he denied causing any harm to his fiancée.
He said, “What Sunday has told you are all lies. She has been going about saying all sorts of things about me.
“That is how she wrote a petition through her lawyer to the Lagos State Police Command. Anyway, the matter is already being investigated by the command.”
When our correspondent sought his opinion on how Sunday got her injury that had kept her in the hospital, the policeman said, “I don’t know what to tell you. Like I said, the matter is being investigated.
The Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Damascus Ozoani, said he was yet to be fully briefed on the issue.
He said, “I don’t have all the facts right now. Let me investigate and I will respond to the story.”
But Sunday said she was more concerned with getting well.
She said, “All I want is the money to treat myself. My doctors are afraid to tell me how much because they don’t want me to be worried, but I have overhead them discussing several times.
“There is a deep wound in my chest which has to be treated and then my neck has to be operated on because it has been stiff since the incident and then there is the matter of my upper arms.
“The doctor, who attended to me at the first hospital I went to in Bariga, told me that I would have to go to India to have my ears reconstructed because they melted. He said I would need N5m.
“Gbanwaun’s family has abandoned me. They did so immediately my family reported the matter to the police. My mother is dead and my father is aged. Coping with my daily treatment here is a struggle for my siblings.”

Oscar Pistorius Arrested 'For Shooting Girlfriend' Early Hours of Val's Day (PICTURED)
South African Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius, known as the "Blade Runner" for his racing prosthetics, was arrested on Thursday after his girlfriend was shot dead at his home in Pretoria.
Police said they had opened a murder case after a 30-year-old woman was found dead at the scene in the upmarket Silverlakes gated community on the outskirts of the capital.
"We found a 9 mm pistol at the scene. A 26-year-old man was taken into custody," police spokeswoman Katlego Mogale said. In South Africa police do not identify suspects until they are charged in court.
Johannesburg's Talk Radio 702 said Pistorius was believed to have shot his girlfriend, a model, in the head and arm, although the circumstances were unclear. He may have mistaken her for a burglar, the radio report said.
Reeva Steenkamp was reported to have been dating Pistorius for a year. In the social pages of last weekend's Sunday Independent, she described Pistorius as having "impeccable" taste.
"His gifts are always thoughtful," she was quoted as saying.
Pistorius, who races wearing carbon fiber prosthetic blades after he was born without a fibula in both legs, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics and reached the 400 meter semi-finals in London 2012.
In last year's Paralympics he suffered his first loss over 200 meters in nine years. After the race he sullied his media darling persona somewhat by questioning the legitimacy of Brazilian winner Alan Oliveira's prosthetic blades. The comments sparked controversy though Pistorius was quick to express his regret.
South Africa has some of the world's highest rates of violent crime and many home owners have weapons to defend themselves against intruders.
In 2004, Springbok rugby player Rudi Visagie shot dead his 19-year-old daughter after he mistakenly thought she was a robber trying to steal his car in the middle of the night.
Pistorius did not answer his mobile phone on Thursday. His agent told Reuters he had not spoken to Pistorius but his lawyers were with him.
Pistorius is sponsored by British telecoms firm BT, sunglasses maker Oakley, sports apparel maker Nike and French designer Thierry Mugler.

Pregnant 16-Year-Old Girl Sues Her Parents For “Forcing Her To Get An Abortion"
A pregnant 16-year-old Texas girl is suing her parents, claiming that her parents are attempting to force her to have an abortion. The Texas Center for Defense of Life filed a lawsuit on the teen’s behalf on Sunday arguing that her parents “are violating her federal constitutional rights to carry her child to term by coercing her to have an abortion with both verbal and physical threats and harassment.” The teen, identified in the lawsuit only as R.E.K. since she is a minor, was “beside herself” when she called the center for help, her lawyer Stephen Casey told ABCNews.com. The group claims it has previously represented teens in similar situations and won their cases.
“These girls are in a bind, particularly in a situation where their parents are forcing them to do something they don’t want to do,” Casey said. “Regardless of the [situation], that’s her parents and she should expect support from them in this situation, not resentment and anger.” When the pregnancy was confirmed, the teenager’s father allegedly “became extremely angry, was insistent that R.E.K. was not having the baby, and that the decision was not up to her, according to the lawsuit. He stated he was going to take her to have an abortion and that the decision was his, end of story.”
The teen claims that her parents have taken away her phone, pulled her out of school, forced her to get two jobs and taken away her car in an effort to “make her miserable so that she would give in to the coercion and have the abortion,” the lawsuit said. Casey said there is evidence of threats, including text messages from the girl’s father. The lawsuit also claims the girl’s mother suggested slipping her an “abortion pill.”
The nine-week pregnant girl said that she and the baby’s father wish to have the child and parent it. The lawsuit is asking that the court declare that the teen has a right, under federal constitutional law, to make her own decisions about the baby. It also asks for a temporary restraining order from the parents. The parents did not respond to request for comment today from ABC News, but the teen’s father told ABC News’ Houston affiliate KTRK that the allegations are false. He told KTRK he thinks someone put his daughter up to the lawsuit. The parents, who have different addresses, have 20 days to file a response.
Sick Cross River Gov Imoke Back Next Week
Acting Governor, Effiok Cobang said this yesterday in Calabar at a town hall meeting - Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, who embarked on a foreign trip months ago, is now hale and hearty and may return to the country this weekend.
Cobang said though Imoke is in Maryland for medical reasons, he is not in any life threatening condition.
“The governor is in Maryland. Any moment from now he will return. There is no secret about his whereabouts. Last December, I had cause to address the elders forum of this state and it was one of the platforms that I felt was necessary for me to clear all doubts about the whereabouts of the governor. If he does not return this weekend, he will definitely do so next week,” he said.
There have been speculations on whether Imoke’s long absence meant his health had further deteriorated and if he was returning to Nigeria anytime soon.
Man Caught Sneaking Into Alaafin’s Palace With Charms
An intruder, who reportedly laced himself with charms, was arrested within the Palace of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
The mission of the intruder was unclear, but being laced with charms signified whatever he was in the palace for must be bad.
The stranger who sneaked into the palace around 6a.m. was said to have been arrested before he was able to fulfill his mission.
Unknown to the suspect, as soon as he jumped into the compound, the palace guards were said to have spotted him. They grabbed him before he was able to make any move.
After he reportedly failed to respond to all the questions put to him, he was handed over to the police at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Oyo Police Division for further questioning.
Confirming the incident, officer in charge of the SARS Sola Aremu said the suspect is being interrogated by the police.

Sex Can't Keep A Man: My Boyfriend Lied To Me
Young ladies go through a lot in relationships these days, most times with the wrong guy:
I am in tears as I write this, it’s not that I want anyone’s pity, I’m just putting out the story to let others learn from my story. I have been with my boyfriend for 4 years after he was deported from the UK. When he got here he lived with his sister but they had an argument and she chucked him out.
So being the good person I am I got an accommodation for him. We have been in a serious relationship and planned to get married this year. Now for the bombshell……
I had NO IDEA he left a wife and two kids in the UK, and I have now discovered that they have been in constant contact.
I then texted my fiancé saying is this really how we are going to end and he replied with 'I am sorry'. Nothing more was said. I am not feeling mentally stable but writing this is a source of relief knowing that someone might read this and be more observant, thus letting her see the kind of man she is really with.
Ladies, and even gentlemen too I’m not saying you should start acting like Sherlock Holmes but just don’t turn a blind eye if you suspect ANYTHING

Actress Snatches Female Pastor's Husband; Now Lives With Him
Sometimes I wonder the kind of "strong" spirits controlling most ladies in the entertainment industry. This busty actress, Foluke Daramola was married but couldn't keep are home and was kicked out months after the marriage. So, she thinks her best option is to take over another woman's husband of over 13years?
I hear she now lives with the married man, Kayode Salako, in Omole Estate, while his wife and three kids have moved out. Living with him as what? Sex mate or illegal wife? Funny enough, the man doesn't care. See what Kayode said about their living together below...
"I didn't abandon my wife and kids; they abandoned me. My wife abandoned me for Foluke to take over. In my family, it's an abomination for a woman to pack her things and leave her husband's house, if it's not the man that sent her out. What she did has confirmed she's not my destined wife. Foluke now lives with me in Omole."

Lee Bassett, 29, climbed over the railings in Plymouth, Devon, and into the harness for 'a bit of a dare' last month.
But his friend was unable to lift him back over the bridge and the emergency services had to be called to rescue him.
Roads had to be closed and the cost of the emergency is believed to have cost the taxpayer £5,000.

The court heard Bassett 'had had a few jars' and 'did it for a dare' and told police on the scene: 'It was supposed to be a joke - it's a bet that went wrong.'
He told police he had put the harness on himself and lowered himself over the railing.
Once swinging there, a friend was supposed to bring him up - but his friend wasn't strong enough to lift him.
Bassett's solicitor said he 'wholeheartedly regrets the matter

SAD: Female Corper Dies Trying To Save A Handball
A youth corp member Faith Nzube Enemuo Batch “C” has reportedly drowned in a river in Ikom Local Council where she was currently serving.
Faith, a graduate of Social Studies from the University of Abuja, had gone to play handball with friends at the bank of a river in Ikom.
But, a few minutes into the game, she went missing.
The ball had fallen into the river, an eyewitness said, and the late Faith offered to fetch the ball, which was moving faster away from the shoreline.
The late Faith stood close to the river for a few seconds, after which she dived to bring the ball out.
Her colleagues watched in excitement as she swam close to the ball. But, in a moment, she stopped and started waving her hands. They thought she was still playing, until they didn’t see her again on the water surface.
When her colleagues realized what was happening, they signaled to the villagers, who were swimming in the river. After 10 minutes of frantic search, the rescuers could not find the girl. More villagers offered to help with canoes and fishing instruments, but they could not get her. Two days later, the late Faith’s body was found on the Okuni Beach in the neighbouring village.
May her soul rest in peace!
