31-year-old Electrician to Die by Hanging for Allegedly Killing His Client in Lagos

A 31-year-old electrician, Abdulkadiri Issa, was on Wednesday sentenced to death by hanging at a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for the murder of Mrs. Catherine Kate-Amadi in Ebute-Meta, Lagos. Issa was condemned to death for stabbing Kate-Amadi with a kitchen knife in her residence where he had been invited to repair some electrical faults sometime in 2006.

After the gory incident, Issa was said to have locked himself up with the corpse of the deceased in the house where policemen said they found him hiding in the toilet. However, his counsel, Mr. Yemi Omodele, had urged the court to discharge and acquit his client, on the ground that the prosecuting counsels led by A.O Bajulaye, has no strong evidence against him.


According to the accused, in his testimony, he often went to the deceased’s flat to help her with electrical repairs but that fateful day he went there as usual but was slapped to unconsciousness by one of the two men sitting with the deceased as at the time of his visit. When he regained consciousness he found people in the house surrounding the deceased in the pool of her blood.

The prosecuting party, however claimed that the Consultant Pathologist and Chief Medical Examiner of theLagos State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. John Obafunwa, was unable to give evidence in the case due to his appointment as “Vice-Chancellor and other administrative issues.” The presiding Justice, Iyabo Kasali, relying on circumstantial evidence presented by the prosecuting counsel, found Issa guilty as charged.

Although the lawyer of the accused maintained it wasn’t fair to convict an accused person simply because he was found at the scene of a crime. Arguing that “it is unheard” that a murderer would intentionally lock himself up in the same room with his victim. He also said the evidence of the first and second prosecution witnesses, PW1, Chief T.I Enyinma, the deceased’s cousin; and PW2, Charles Osuagwu, the deceased’s brother-in-law, was only based on hearsay and not firsthand witnesses

Exhuming corpse to make money is increasingly becoming a trade in Ogun State and other parts of the country.

However, the Police had insisted that the illicit trade won’t subsist with the arrest of one Olorunwa Jimoh who is currently cooling his feet in police net for the same offence. Jimoh confessed that his business albeit illegitimate is to search for graveyards from which he exhumes corpses in Ago-Iwoye.

It was gathered that one Otunba Adekoya, a resident of Adekoya Street in the town, caught him in the act in his neighborhood, after which he raised alarm, leading to his arrest and detention at the Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police Headquarters.

The unusual confidence which Jimoh exuded in the presence of policemen painted a picture of an unrepentant man. He even justified his act as a means to survive what he called the hard time.

“What everybody is looking for is what to do to eat. This is my own means of making money to feed myself. Abore is the one who buys any part I take to him,” he said defiantly.

The Police have since commenced a search for Abore who is said to have fled Ago-Iwoye soon after the news of Jimoh’s arrest broke.

The Police, however, have decided to keep a sealed lips on the update regarding the search. “We cannot tell you how far we have gone so that it won’t affect our job. But I can assure you that he would be fished out to confirm or deny the allegation,” Muyiwa Adejobi, Ogun State PPRO said.

President Jonathan Congratulates Obasanjo On New Appointment

President Goodluck Jonathan has felicitated with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his appointment as the Country Representative for Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Abati said that the President in a congratulatory letter, expressed confidence in Obasanjo on the “new honorific position”.

The President said that Obasanjo would ensure that the trust generated the resources required to fund legacy projects in the name of Queen Elizabeth through his wide network of contacts across the Commonwealth.

Jonathan said he considered the appointment, not only a personal honour to the former President, but also to Nigeria as a country.

He wished the former President success in his new endeavour.

45-year-old Pastor Admits To Stealing Ipad In Ibadan

A 45-year-old man pastor, Peter Oladiti, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ibadan Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing Ipad and other sets of computer set valued at over N240,00.

Prosecutor Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the accused also allegedly stole an HP laptop computer valued N85, 000 and a printing machine worth N8, 000, property of a secondary school principal.

Opaleye said that the accused committed the offence on Oct.7 at Ile-Eja, Olohunsogo Area of Ibadan.

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 413 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo state of Nigeria 2000.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and his counsel, Mr Philips Ojo, applied for out of court settlement of the matter.

The case was adjourned to Jan. 30, 2013 for further hearing.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha Shuts Down Nudity Clubs In Imo State

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has ordered the immediate closure of nudity clubs in the state, describing their existence as “strange and devilish”. Okorocha, who gave the order in Owerri on Wednesday at the end of the meeting of the state Security Council, said that the operation of nudity clubs debased Igbo culture.

He said that such clubs had compounded the eroding morality of the youths and warned that the government would no longer condone their destructive activities. Many nudity clubs are operating in the state capital.


The governor also banned under-age persons from attending night clubs in the state and warned that any club found admitting such persons or selling alcoholic drinks to them would be closed down permanently.

The governor also ordered the demolition of a house in Oru East Local Government Area and a filling station in Mbaitoli Local Government Area allegedly owned by kidnappers.

Okorocha warned that government was determined to stamp out kidnapping in the state.
He also warned owners of uncompleted buildings in the state to clean and secure them to prevent criminals from using them as hideouts.

The governor decried the upsurge of secret cults in some secondary schools in the state and warned student cult members that government was poised to deal with them.

He expressed concern over the increase in child trafficking in the state and said that government had taken steps with the security agencies to check the trend.

Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov has insisted he plans to carry on playing until he is 40-years-old, after an impressive start to the season at Craven Cottage.

The name Uche Jombo is synonymous to a Nigerian movie star that has had a rough time with the Nigerian media especially on her romantic relationship. Shortly before her secret marriage, she reportedly blamed the media for her failed relationship with Super Eagles football player, Kalu Uche.

The relationship was believed to have lasted 10 years before both parted ways. It was no surprise when the talented actress chose to pull off a secret wedding to her Puerto Rican lover, Kenny Rodriguez in May in the US.

Even after the secret wedding, many controversies still trailed her over the late release of her wedding pictures. Some days ago, Nigeriafilms.com had an interview with Uche Jombo. She talked about sundry issues but refused to delve into her marriage, which she claimed to be private to her. Excerpts

With what you have achieved, how have you give back to the society?
I employ and pay people’s school fees of those not related to me, how else do you want me to give back to the society? Oga, I like to know how you give back to the society.

Are you really doing that? Because the other time, you were asking about my private life

No, because Uche Jombo as a person is different from Uche Jombo as a brand.

What differentiates the two?
Uche Jombo the person is quiet about her privacy because that is the only thing that has made me to still remain where I am and still stand. Like I said, in as much as I will piss you off, we cannot do without each other. So, I would rather not give you reason to piss me off. I would rather speak about the work that speaks about how serious I am as a filmmaker or humanitarian projects I do.

Do you bring up future talents in acting?
Is that not what Royal Arts Academy (RAA) about? That is what we do every day. It is not actually building future stars alone, it is about getting people who are interested in this and passionate about this job because that is what keeps you here. If you are here for money or fame, it fizzles out. You have to make those who want to have a staying power in the industry that it is not about fame and money. Money should not be the reason why they want to act. But when the passion is put into it, money would come.

What has kept the likes of you and others remain on top despite having other talented ones coming after you
I can’t speak for anyone but like I said earlier one, it is the passion. Passion has also driven me to invest back into Nollywood that is how much I believe in it. I am sure I am not the only one who is capable of doing that. Investing back into Nollywood wasn’t about making money. You can tell by the kind of films I do, which is advocacy based. It was really about the kind of story I write and want to bring out because I prefer to do human stories. If you get to a point you define why you are here, you will just be here. But if you don’t, you will float. So, you ask why you are in the industry, it will either make or mar you.

Please talk about your foundation
My foundation is ‘Uche Jombo and You’. It empowers the youth through talents. My production company is mostly filled with young people. I am responsible for their trainings. They train and get paid when they work, even on my production. If someone comes to me and says he does not have money to pat his school fees, he can work for me and get paid. I am also always being careful because some people come with fake stories of being in one problem or the other. It is sometimes difficult but we are trying. I just feel for them because of where I was coming from. I crawled, ran and I got here (stardom). I have spent over 10 years here. I came from a very humble beginning and saw myself through school. I started as a script writer, an actress, producer, a studio owner and I have everything that I need to help anyone that is interested in production. I am interested in the next generation. That was how I came on board as a director for royal acts. It is basically what I am about.

How have you been able to stay up with all the negative stories written about you
I just have a feel of it. I have learnt how to separate my life from work. I have come to the realization of the fact that I am in a love and hate relationship with the press. Having said that, I have had few people who have been supporting me over the years and have seen me grow. They have seen me from my teenage years to my maturity stage. They have been there for me from my waka pass era to my brand now as Uche Jombo. When such people write about me, it is a little different [from others]. Those few people help me in balancing stories written by those who don’t know much about me.

What negative story has really hit you the most and won’t forget in a hurry
I have written about severally but none can come to mind now. I have had times I read through a story written about me in the papers and the only thing that is true is my name. sometimes, they spell my name wrongly. They spell ‘Jumbo’ rather than ‘Jombo’. Like a colleague of mine told me that I should work hard to separate me as a person from me as a brand. That advice was given to me almost eight years ago and I have really tried to do that.

Which one in particular brought down tears in your eyes
None can come to mind now

Is it about the abortion story
I have had worse. That one was just big because it was the one I took to court because I don’t understand why anybody would sit down and fabricate something that would hurt another human being without any shrewd. Even if you don’t have a sister, you might get married tomorrow and have a girl child. Anytime anybody writes, I always say, drop your pen and just imagine you being that person. If what you’ve written is the truth, you are justified. If it is not the truth, the person need not to go to anywhere to swear for you, karma would just take care of you.

Have you swore for anyone before
No, I am just saying, I do not need to waste my breath to swear, karma would take care of you. That is the way it works.

Which one has forced tears out of you

Nollywood Veteran actor Pete Eneh`s Leg Amputated due to illness

This is extremely sad news coming from the home of veteran actor, Pete Eneh.According to Linda  doctors at Parklane Hospital Enugu had no choice but to amputate one of his legs in order to save his life.

The veteran actor was said to have sustained some kind of injury last year, and because he didn't take proper care of it, it led to serious infection that became hard to treat. The injury was said to have degenerated to a sore and because Mr Eneh was diabetic, it refused to heal. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to amputate the leg before the infection spread to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday October 24th after all efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. Pete Eneh is said to be dealing with it well
